Video and parallax backgrounds for WordPress

AWB is a free WordPress plugin that puts a video, an image or a colour behind any block of content. Parallax and an overlay colour are settings on the same block.

Video

A YouTube or Vimeo link, or an MP4 from the media library. The video plays muted and loops. A poster image shows where the video cannot play.

Image

Any image from the media library, a repeating pattern, or the featured image of the post. WordPress serves the image size that fits the screen.

Colour

A solid colour, or a semi-transparent colour over an image or video so that text stays readable.

What you can set up

Every option below is a field in the block sidebar.

Parallax effects

Scroll, scale, opacity, opacity with scroll, and opacity with scale. Each has a speed setting from -1.0 to 2.0.

Mouse parallax

The background follows the mouse cursor. On phones it follows the tilt of the device.

Overlay colour

A colour with adjustable transparency placed over the background. Use it to keep text readable on busy images.

Mobile settings

Video and parallax are disabled on phones by default. Each block has a checkbox to enable them.

Video start, end and poster

Set the start and end time of the clip in seconds, and a poster image for browsers that do not play the video.

Editors

Works as a block in the block editor, as a shortcode in the classic editor, and as extra row settings in WPBakery Page Builder.

Mouse parallax

Move the cursor over this section and the background moves with it. On a phone it responds to the tilt of the device.

Self-hosted video background

This section plays an MP4 from the media library. It is muted, loops, and stops at 104 seconds because of the end time setting.
